A Timeline of the Gardens Residential Care Facilities

1983

The first Alzheimer’s care center, Richman Gardens, is established in Fullerton.

1987

The second Alzheimer’s care center, Fullerton Gardens, is built in Fullerton.

July 1989

A group of nursing home owners and administrators from England visited Fullerton Gardens to study the care program developed by the Neches family.

1991

The third Alzheimer’s care center, Sunflower Gardens, is built in Santa Ana/Costa Mesa area.

Dec. 1992

The Alzheimer’s Association invited the Neches family team to present their exemplary program at the national conference in Chicago entitled “Alzheimer’s Care Strategies: Partners in Quality Care”.

1993

The Alzheimer's care centers of the Neches family are included in a research study conducted by UC San Francisco. The research is funded by the Kaiser Family Foundation.

1994




The National Alzheimer's Association in Chicago recommends the Neches family centers to a Japanese delegation on a Study Tour for Dementia Sufferers. The delegation that visited the Gardens Residential Care Centers consisted of the Head of the Psychiatry Department of a Medical School, Hospital Doctors and Nurses, Administrators and Social Workers, as well as Executives of Insurance Companies.

1995

Braha Givol, The Head Nurse of a Psychogeriatric Hospital in Israel, visited the Neches family Centers for the purpose of exchange of experiences.

1996

The UC Irvine Alzheimer's Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center chose the facilities of the Neches family for their research work.

1999

The fourth Alzheimer’s care center, Valley View Gardens, is built in West Garden Grove.

Jan. 2001


Medical staff members from Hyung Ju Hospital, a neuropsychiatric hospital in South Korea, conducted a study tour of Valley View gardens to learn more about the Gardens' care and therapeutic programs as well as the specialized physical environment.

Oct. 2004


Management contract given to Oregon based, Good Neighbor Care.


Health providers and management executives from various states beginning with North Carolina and up to Hawaii have visited the Neches family centers throughout their 18 years of operation to see their unique design and care philosophy. The best sign of recognition and appreciation arises from the fact that the majority of referrals come from the families of former and present residents.
